Local Enterprises
IDE builds the capacity of the grassroots private sector
– very small, often one-person informal enterprises at the commune level.
Interventions focus on developing the layer of businesses immediately
surrounding poor families. This is the most critical part of the system, because
it links poor families to outside markets.
IDE trains local entrepreneurs to:
 |
Develop a mission statement; |
 |
Improve the quality of their services; and |
 |
Build a loyal and expanding consumer base.
|
These enterprises eventually develop reputations as
reliable sources of products, information, and services.
Where appropriate, IDE builds a brand for a product,
process, or set of techniques and technologies and helps local enterprises
market that brand and maintain the quality of the products and services it
represents.
